Chayan Vaddhanaphuti received his BA from ChulalongkornUniversity, MPA from National Institute of Development Administration, MA inAnthropology from Stanford University and PhD in International DevelopmentEducation with concentration in Anthropology from the same university.  He received theHonorary Doctorate in Social Anthropology from Goteborg University, Sweden, in2004. His main interests include development studies, ethnic relation, ethnicidentity, cross-border issues, knowledge and power, health social science,regionalization of development in the Mekong sub-region. He has been working on ethnicity, development, resource management,multiculturalism, etc., and has promoted the intersection between socialscience and development. Currently,he serves as the Director for the Regional Center forSocial Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD) and the Center for EthnicStudies and Development (CESD), Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang MaiUniversity.

Research interest:

Development studies, multiculturalism, ethnic relation, ethnic identity, cross-border issues, knowledge and power, health social science, resource management, regionalization of development in the Mekong sub-region.
